Scientists learned over time that simply giving growth hormone (GH) can disrupt the body’s natural balance and cause side effects, so attention shifted toward safer ways to support the body’s own hormone system. Research showed that GH is normally released in pulses under the control of the brain through growth hormone-releasing hormone (GHRH). Tesamorelin was developed as a lab-made version of GHRH to gently signal the body to produce its own GH instead of replacing it directly. By working with the body’s natural feedback system, tesamorelin helps avoid hormone overload and supports healthier metabolism and fat balance. Its effects depend on the body’s normal rhythms, making it more controlled and physiologic than direct GH therapy. For this reason, tesamorelin is viewed as a hormone-supporting signal rather than a hormone replacement (Guillemin et al., 1982; Stanley & Grinspoon, 2015).
