Retatrutide is an experimental medicine being studied for weight loss and diabetes. It works by copying three natural hormones in the body that control hunger, blood sugar, and how the body burns fat. Because it works on all three at once, it may be more powerful than current weight-loss injections. The drug is designed to last a long time in the body, so it only needs to be taken once a week. In studies so far, people lost a large amount of weight (around 20–24%) and also showed better blood sugar control, with mostly mild side effects like nausea. It may also help reduce fat in the liver and improve how the body responds to insulin. However, Retatrutide is still being tested and is not yet approved for public use (Jastreboff et al., 2023; Badulescu et al., 2024).
