Cagrinitide (also called AOD-9604) is a lab-made peptide created to copy the fat-burning effects of human growth hormone without its unwanted side effects. Scientists discovered that certain small pieces of growth hormone could break down fat without triggering body growth or raising insulin-related risks. Using this idea, Cagrinitide was designed to act only on fat cells, helping them release stored fat for energy. Unlike growth hormone, it does not activate growth pathways or increase IGF-1, which is linked to many hormone-related side effects. Because of this targeted action, it is studied as a safer way to support fat metabolism rather than a full hormone treatment. Today, Cagrinitide is mainly used as a research tool in obesity and metabolic studies, not as an approved medication (Ng et al., 2000; Heffernan et al., 2001).
